Since when I was a kid I always loved the symbolism of the year 2000. Later on you could almost wanna kill yourself if another person said the words: “New Millennium”. But for me there still was this need to do something special on New Year’s Eve 1999/2000. As students a couple of us guys agreed we’d meet up in New York to celebrate the whole thing there, but alas, promises, promises.
Then I planned to go to Brazil with a friend of mine, but the plan went sour. Same thing happened with the plan to go to Thailand, so with less then three months to go, I had to find me another location coz I’d be damned if I’d have to be in frigging Holland for such a momentous occasion.
Last Chance Saloon: The Philippines and it was great! The country or the collection of a gazillion islands was an excellent choice: big smoggy megacities like Manilla, small weird deforested islands, incredible mix of populace and the celebration of New Year’s Eve on the island of Bohol.
Excellent!

About four years ago I went on vacation to New Zealand, beautiful place to visit! It’s the only place where I couldn’t be too pissed about the fact that sometimes due to lousy weather some of the activities would get cancelled. Just driving along the coast or passing the glaciers or the lakes or the hillside and mountains.. I kept looking at it all with a very silly yet satisfied grin on my face: awesome country..
I didn’t do the bungee jumping stuff but I did take an “assisted” parachute jump near Queenstown, which is a fantastic place to skydive..
