After that great hike, some rest and a nice lunch, we went to Port Foster, landing at Telefon Bay.
A nice landing, with a hike up a crater that wasn’t so nice.. Man, am I out of shape! I was totally dead meat when we reached the top (which wasn’t more than a ten minute steep climbing session). Still haven’t made any new year’s resolutions, though..
 Holy $#it!! |
Hell.. I promise.. to quit.. smoking.. and.. to go.. to a health club.. ouchie.. |

The second part of the landing on Deception Island was a hike to Whaler’s Bay.
We walked along the penguins to a snowy hill that gave you a great sight of Bailey Head on the one side and Whaler’s Bay on the other.
Deception Island is still volcanic and provides a nice warm water stream at Whaler’s Bay. I passed at the opportunity to go for a swim (cold water next to warm water)..
Avenida 9 de Julio, uhm.. hold on.. |
View of Bailey Head (crappy pic, but love the clouds and the view!) |
 Ooooohh.. nice! |
Whaler’s Bay in sight, almost there |

Some people went for a swim, I sure as hell didn’t ;o) |

Very, very early rise to do the landing and hike on Deception Island. First stage was the landing on Bailey Head beach - something that isn’t always successful due to the currents near the beach..
The Penguin Highway is an awesome sight, these animals are working hard to get their grub!
We’re allowed to walk there, but the penguins have the right of way. So sometimes you have to wait a coupla minutes to let 20-odd penguins pass and walk their walk before you can continue.. I like the rules a lot.

 Safe landing |
Ready for a swim, guys? |
We’re not tourists, we’re.. uhm.. explorers, yeah, that’s it! |
 Good morning, good morning! |
