Oh man.. The day before we were talking about us possibly seeing some whales and I was like “Boaf.. It’s nice if we see them, but it’s okay if we don’t”..
Silly, silly me..
First we saw them was when we were still on the ship and that was from quite a distance: humpback whales! My excitement level went in overdrive when the whales swam just a coupla meters from the ship!
Another incredible Happy Puppy™ Moment!!
Then we went on the zodiacs and things just got better and better..
Yes! But from a bloody far.. |
 Up close! |
Watch closely, you might miss it.. |
Just a nice view from the zodiacs.. |

Nice little landing at the Port Lockroy station, now totally restored in its pre-50’s form as a museum. The weird part is the large room with all the merchandise you can buy.. Bought me a nice cap ;o)
The penguins are living on the same spot and they’re the most unimpressed animals I’ve ever seen. You can jump up and down all you want and they still carry on without one squawk or screech..
Just posing for the tourists.. |

You’d almost forget that it’s the X-mas season with all the beauty and sights & sounds around you. But our X-mas Eve dinner was very special: we had a BBQ outside!
After a while the captain came over to inspect the “small” icebergs that were closing in our ship. So we had to move a bit further, to a spot that was much more windy - everybody skipped dessert to go inside ;o)

Our first visit to a scientific research station, Vernadsky. We had a tour of their accommodation and research facilities. The most important thing however, was the fact that there was a nice bar! The ladies were allowed to pay for their drinks with some unusual currency: a bra..
 Welcome! |
Just to give you a sense of distance.. |

 The Bar!! |
