Since when I was a kid I always loved the symbolism of the year 2000. Later on you could almost wanna kill yourself if another person said the words: “New Millennium”. But for me there still was this need to do something special on New Year’s Eve 1999/2000. As students a couple of us guys agreed we’d meet up in New York to celebrate the whole thing there, but alas, promises, promises.
Then I planned to go to Brazil with a friend of mine, but the plan went sour. Same thing happened with the plan to go to Thailand, so with less then three months to go, I had to find me another location coz I’d be damned if I’d have to be in frigging Holland for such a momentous occasion.
Last Chance Saloon: The Philippines and it was great! The country or the collection of a gazillion islands was an excellent choice: big smoggy megacities like Manilla, small weird deforested islands, incredible mix of populace and the celebration of New Year’s Eve on the island of Bohol.
Excellent!
