Movie: Dark Harbour (Naito Takatsugu, Japan, 2008, 101′)

Date: Jan 28, 2009

Rating: ★★★☆☆
(1st half was great fun, second half disappointing)

Plot: A lonely fisherman working and living near a quiet little harbour village is in search of love, warmth and happiness. His wishes come true, sort of.

Cast: Quality cast, especially the lead actor.

Visuals: Nothing too off-beat, just some funny quirkiness. One great scene: the lead character running from his boat across the harbour to his truck, all taken from one position in what seems to be one take.

Conclusion: Had a lot of fun watching the first half, even wishing that Takeshi Kitano would’ve played the lead role. However, the second half was a bit of a letdown: things got serious and sad without the quirky-fun approach (and yes, it is possible to combine the two).
Still, it was an enjoyable movie.
