Movie: Familia Tortuga (Ruben Imaz Castro, Mexico , 2006 – 139 ‘ )

Date: Jan 28, 2007

Rating: ★★★☆☆ (it’s the ending that makes the 139 minutes acceptable)

Plot: A family tries to deal with the loss of the mother/wife/sister and tomorrow is the first anniversary of her death. It’s all about downward spirals.

Cast: I was impressed by the mentally-challenged uncle character: sometimes very annoying, sometimes brilliantly sharp

Visuals: Hmm.. The direction of the movie: let’s film every minute detail of what’s happening – kinda got on my nerves, but after about 30 minutes you get used to it. I liked the moody blandness in lighting and colors.

Conclusion: I only realized this movie ‘d be more than two hours long after I bought the ticket. And during the first hour I was sorta aching to leave, but something kept me in my chair. The ending was.. not spectacular.. not life changing.. just.. right. Still, cutting it down to 90-100 minutes really would’ve been a good idea (but the hell do I know?)
