Frenchy’s Favorites: Gotcha! - “Gotcha!Gotcha!Gotcha!”

General Description
Artist/Band: Gotcha!
Album Title: Gotcha!Gotcha!Gotcha!
Year: 1993
Donald Fagen- 'Gotcha!Gotcha!Gotcha!'

How I Got Into This Music
For a small country, this place can deliver the best music in the world, if only people’d take time to notice..
Gotcha! is one of those bands and I was lucky enough to get nagged by Jeroen V. to listen to this album, “because it’s great”, no questions asked, nuff said..
Well, I sure as hell didn’t know what was happening to my ears when I first played this stuff - KABLAM! KAPOW! etc.
Incredible P-Funk: a fantastic mix of the Master George Clinton’s crazy stuff and well, anything else these guys could think of.
I hadn’t heard anything quite like this!

Tracks that got my attention
(well, all of them actually, but still..):

Tell it like it is
First song, first blast! Damn, these guys rock the rocks and funk da funk..

Naked
Anybody remember the go-go sound from Washington DC? Well, these bad mothers bring it all back combined with some heavy guitars and wickedly wicked lyrics..
I never saw you naked with your booty up in the air
(Which is a valid complaint regarding one specific lass.. But alas, a lass..)

Stronger than Ajax, save da day
Grmbl, grmbl, grmbl.. It takes a lot of musical pride to ignore your football pride.. As a fan of Feyenoord football club in Rotterdam, it’s truely painful to admit you like a song that praises the Amsterdam club, that shall remain nameless, kinda..
Damn good track: from the noise to the dreamscape horror stuff and the brittle vocals!
(Now, where did I leave the soap and steel brush?)

Bonesong
Ooooohh… funky bass all over the place! Loudness and nastyness together again!

Red Hot Mamma
Least favorite track, but okay..

Love o my life/ Madame Butterfly
One of the best tracks ever, ever, ever made.. Am I getting the point accross?
The ghostly ghastly business of Love Lost: no cure, no stay of execution.. This track gives me the chills.
Said I’m gonna love you left, said I’m gonna love you so right.
Damn! And the music? Well, that goes through the whole gamut of emotions and styles, you can express musically: funk, reggae/dancehall, rock, you name it, it’s there..

Any better love
“Trying to keep me off the track.
Baby, baby, baby, I want you back”

Crazy-assed lyrics on a mellow groove - fantastic!

Where have you been so long
Second awe-inspiring track! Sweet brittle vocals on a laidback groove again mixed over to some of the best rap lyrics ever with a nasty guitar doing the dirtay!
When I was a kid, I danced quite a lot.
But now I’m all grown up, I just can’t stop..

Brrrrrr, I’m so cool, I might catch a cold!!”

Funky creature
Title says it all - mellow hanging by the beach watching the sunset kinda music..

Money
Jazz-funk-fusion thing going on, great track!

Higher
I honestly wouldn’t know what this song is about.. No, really! So, why’s nobody believing me? I’ve changed my ways a long way back! Heheh.. Great track..

Heroine
“I won’t love you forever, but I will love you till the end of this life..”
Nuff said..

Mtv-ling
Nastay..

Conclusion
All-time favorite, top 10 favorite album. If Heaven doesn’t have this album somewhere, I know there’ll be Hell to pay..
These guys’re talented musicians who still do their stuff in a most wicked manner. Wish list: checking out the band live!

I completely agree with al of the above mentioned but the soccer crap. ( not onto soccer at all) Although its hard to choose between the “words and music from the lowlands” album and this one.
Saw the band a few times live, and hope u did by now, kick ass party show each time.

Missed the third album “Live from the old school” sadly enough.

    Keep on funkin!!

    Cheers in ya ears!!
