IFFR 2005 - “Land Of Plenty”

2005 Edition
Wim Wenders. A Cult Hero? Well, in my mind, if you get a chance to see one of his movies, you gotta go, gotta go.. Knew the name, knew the movies, but without seeing any of them. That was something that had to be resolved, of course. So..
The story: life, two years after 9/11 from one very interesting family’s perspective. A girl looking for her uncle in the crazy world called LA. A girl with a strong Christian religious background. An uncle living with the mental and physical scars of the Vietnam conflict. A girl flying over from the incredibly complex situation on the West Bank to the totally different (?) chaos of downtown LA with its downtrodden homeless people. An uncle patrolling the city to scan for any potential threat of new terrorist attacks, beit real or total mental fabrication. She’s trying to find him and he’s trying not to be found. Enough plot blahblah.
It’s an interesting movie with great visuals, a godlike score and great acting. The different drama issues are always threatening to screw up the experience, but the movie keeps its own message and experience.
So? My conclusion: Good quality, possibly a bit too preachy, visuals and ambience are great.
